Yellow Daffodil Flowers In The Spring Time

Over the years, we planted several hundreds of daffodils bulbs in our yard. We love daffodil flowers because they are so easy to maintain, or they hardly require any maintenance at all. Despite the low maintenance and care-free characteristics of having daffodil flowers, they still give stunning bright colors during the spring time, so its not like you are making any compromise or have to choose between having a pretty colorful yard or not wanting to water all the time. Usually, daffodils bloom around the month of March to April of every year (in the United States). They are easy to grow, easy to plant from bulbs, they grow back year after year, and they tend to multiply more bulb clumps yearly because every single bulb planted undearneath the ground can multiply into a clump of new bulbs, which is then highly recommended that these clumps of bulbs be separated and divided inorder to decrowd the bulbs, inorder to give space for each new bulb a room to grow as its own flower plant. These new young bulbs will also multiply on its own later on, so its best not to plant each bulb too close to each other, to give room for new room for the each new bulbs and let it become its own flower plant.

Nowadays, there are several diffent varieties of daffodils available in the market, different colors, new breeds, etc. The most common ones are the yellow color. If ever you are considering landscaping your yard with high hopes of having some bright colors during the springtime, you might want to consider having daffodils in the plan, you do need to keep in mind that daffodils only blooms around 2-3 months in a year, so that you need to have other types of plants planted with them or nearby that will bloom in other seasons like fall if you want an all year round colors in the same spot of the yard. Daffodils are great to be planted near fencing or borders, and they work extremely well together as a group because they have more visual effect when several daffodils are planted together as a group because they stand out and pop out more visually.

Canna Lily Tropical Flowering Plant

Canna Lily is a flowering tropical plant that originates from the tropics but are also popularly grown in several different countries not only in the tropical islands but also in Europian countries, as well as United States of America. Canna Lilies have giant attractive foliage and bright colorful flowers which make this plant an easy choice for landscaping and favorite among many gardeners because they grow back year after year, and they are pretty. There are wide variety of Canna Lilies available out there, some have plain green leaves, while others have colorful stripe patterns in their foliage. The widely popular and available colors of Canna Lilies are the red, orange, and yellow, or a combination of these colors.

If you look closely at the flower itself they are oddly shape, but looks beautiful at the same time. From a distance its easy to notice the medium size flowers of Canna Lilies blooming beautifully because of their color and the bountiful big constrasting leaves surrounding the flowers, highlighting the flowers even more. And because of their bright attrative colors, they are great attractors of hummingbirds. So if you love to invite hummingbird in your yard, you might want to plant some of the red Canna Lilies because they are widely attracted to color red for food.

Canna Lilies grow from rhizomes, which is a form of an underground stems. When you buy Canna Lilies from the store for gardening, a lot of them are packed and sold in this manner, rhizome forms. Although, you can buy an already growing plant, in which all you need to do is transplant for instant gratification, buying it in a plant form rather than in a rhizome form is usually a lot more expensive. Buying it in a plant form with leaves and stems on it already is a lot more expenseive because basically all you have to do is transplant it in the ground or planter, and wait for the flowers to bloom, considering that you do water and occassionally fertilize them too. One thing to remember, if you ever buy them in rhizome forms you need to make sure that you remember where you actually plant them so that you can tend and water them while they are buried below ground because planting with rhizomes means you will plant them below the ground and nothing will be visible until they started to grow stems, leaves, and come out of the ground.

Once planted and they mature as a plant in your yard, they can grow as tall as 4 to 6 feet in height which will definitely make a huge presence in your yard. They can grow tall and multiply wide which is great for landscaping a big plain yard. Being planted at the right climate, and given right care and maintenace it might need, they can come back year after year and naturally they can multiply from underground through its rhizomes. Each following year, you will notice that they cover more ground. The more years you have the plant, it can multiply from below and grow more plants from it.

The good news is, you do not have to dig the rhizomes below to plant more Canna Lilies in other parts of your yard or garden. If you have not heard already, you can actually grow Canna Lilies from their seeds too. In a natural cycle without you taking the effort and initiative to grow them from their seeds, the Canna Lilies can still multiply from seeds but it could take years for these seeds to germinate and grow because it has a very hard outer shell that will be hard to break in a natural environment. But with some techniques available to grow Canna Lilies from seeds, you can fast forward the cycle and easily grow these magnifienct flowers from its seeds rather than wait for nature to break the seed hard shell which could possibly take several years before they do.

Here is a video clip of growing Canna Lily from seeds. This video is your getway to speed up the multiplication process of your Canna Lily from its seeds, without waiting for nature to let it grow naturally:

This video will show you where you can find the Canna Lily seeds or where you can locate them from the flowers:

I hope that you learned somethings new about Canna Lilies today, whether you have an existing plant, or wanting to have one. Thank you for visiting Gardeners Land website today. Red Tulips Flowers Planted Around An Oak Tree

Last fall, we planted a bunch of red tulips bulbs in different areas of the yard both front and back yard. It was hardwork being the soil so compact and dry with not much water in the ground left. Digging the holes is not an easy job, but we convince ourselves that all our hardwork is going to be rewarded. Indeed, every single bulb that we planted survive. Since we planted them in groups they stand out more and more noticable. That noticable, some of the peopl in the area complimented on it.

The red tulips stands out really well near the green gass lawn, they pop out like a sore thumb. Having them in group all in the same color, also make each tulip flowers seem larger because its easy to notice them from afar being in the same little area together, it creates bigger visual impact compare to having each of them scattered way far apart in different parts of the yard.

Pink Camellia

There are several varieties of Camellia flowers that can be found in some countries. The camellia flower photos shown here are from our garden. Love the type of camellia flower plant we have because it has stunning pink petals neatly layered in stunning formation of delicate petals similar in look to a lotus flower.

A camellia plant is usually an evergreen shrub with glossy think leaves. During bloom season, they can produce several beautiful flowers in unison, giving you an impressive display of colors for your yard. Camellia species come in different colors like pink, red, yellow, white, etc.

Magical Exotic Flowers

Here is a photo of some of the most bizzare looking exotic flowers that you can find in a tropical islands like Hawaii. You dont normally see these flowers growing wildly in most yard in the mainland USA, but for areas with nice tropical climate like Hawaii, they can easily grow these unique and interesting looking flower plants.

Vibrant Bougainvilla Flowers

Widely popular and abundant in many tropical islands like Hawaii and Asian countries, Bougainvilla flowers do survive in some US states specially areas with sunny and mild climates.

Bougainvilla flower is a favorite among many because of its capability to produce abundant, vibrant and rich color flowers specially red or fuchsia that could easily transform a boring spot in a yard into a gorgeous display of flowers.

Bougainvilla flower plant is a great alternative to add color to certain areas in your yard specially near the fences and corners of your yard. You may buy them as young plant but normally bougainvillas can possibly grow around 4-5 feet tall and wide as well, so it is wise to consider planting them in places where there is space to grow wide and tall and not fight with your other plants.
Bougainvilla plant is not very ideal for all household because of its very thorny stems, more like rose plants. So if you have kids and toddlers that are frequent in areas that you are considering of planting bougainvilla flower plant, it might not be a great idea afterall because the thorns can pose as danger to them.

A Quick Glance At Dandelions

Dandelion is a flowering plant with attractive bright yellow flower that transformed into a stunning intricate Dandelion seed clock as it progresses over time. Although, for some gardeners, this flowering plant can be one deceiving beauty because they are widely considered as weeds and a complete nuisance in most gardens and lawns. But at the same time, Dandelion have beneficial purposes for both in culniary and medicinal uses. Dandelion is such a popular plant that some places even celebrate a Dandelion Day every year!

The Dandelion clock is one of the most popular subject of photography in a Dandelion plant, but the seed components of this clock is so intricate and delicate that a mere blow of a wind against it will burst this clock open, each seed as light as a feather, easily spreading each seeds in the air, which when this happens, you can definitely expect more Dandelion weeds growing in your garden or lawn the following year! For flower garderners and lawn people, knowing that you just planted and spread more Dandelion seeds in your yard is a complete nightmare.
If you see a full and undisturbed Dandelion clock in your garden or lawn, pick it off from the plant slowly and place it in a solid container or trash can carefully, making sure that you wont be shaking it off and dropping the seeds all over.

Yellow And Red Tulip

This beautiful bright yellow tulip with red accent is one of the most unique tulip flower that we have in our yard and definitely one of my absolute favorite. In general, i love tulips specially the long-stemmed ones because they look so simple standing tall and pretty both in the garden or as cut flowers.

So if you are looking for tulip blooms next year at springtime, it is almost time to check out the stores for tulip bulbs. Most flower bulbs are available for sale and ready for planting near or on fall season. The closer and closer we approach fall season, the more tulip bulbs are readily available for sale in many different stores.

A little time you take to plant a tulip bulb or two, will give you the opportunity to enjoy one of this beauty in your own yard for many years to come!

Peony Beauty

If you are looking for a perennial beauty that you can enjoy for many years, a Peony flower is definitely a stunning alternative for your garden. Peonies come in several colors like bright pink, maroon red, white, etc. Their delicate soft petals that resemble rose petals. Sometimes, at first glance, Peony flowers look like huge rose flowers, but when you examine a Peony plant closely, Peony normally dont have torns in the stem, its bud looks like a green ball, the leaves are noticably different shape compare to a rose, and the flower may look like a rose at a glance but they have their own shape and unique characteristics. A Peony plant usually grow into a shrub and produce multiple flowers that usually bloom in late spring or early summer.

Daffodil Flower Blooms

Late last year, during the fall season, we planted few hundreds of daffodils bulbs all over our yard. We got a great deal of daffodil bulbs at a warehouse store, and it was hard to pass up. This spring time is the first blooms of all the new daffodils that we planted last fall. And they been coming out and blooming like crazy since March, and its already April and we still have plenty of daffodil blooms all around. I should say that all the hardwork and dirty work of digging tiny holes, dropping the bulbs and covering them up with soil were all worthwhile because if we didnt exert all the effort that we did, then we probably dont get to see all the colorful blooms that we now enjoy, and for years to come.

The photo provided above is one of the one that I took from our yard. It is the combo white and yellow one. But the most common daffodil that we have in our yard are the solid bright yellow, which is also very pretty and attractive. The great thing about daffodils is that they are easy to grow and care, hardly any maintenace at all, and the deer dont like them, so even if you plant them outside the fence or gate, the deer usually dont eat them. Although, sometimes deer try to take a bite, but they usually ended up spitting them out.

Spring Delight Crocuses

If you have several different variety of flowers in your yard, you will surely notice that the first few flowers that will come out and bloom after winter time are your crocuses, if you have crocus planted in your yard. Crocuses are definitely early spring bloomers, sometimes they flowers around first week of March, even before the actual spring date!

Crocus flowers come in different color varieties like white, purple, pink, and even multi-colored stripes of purple and white. Crocus flowers comes from bulbs, which you can abundantly buy during fall season. And when planted during the fall season, you can usually expect the Crocuses to flower and bloom at spring time that follow.

Mature crocus flowers only measures around 4 to 5 inches in height, so they are perfect as bed flowers or as borders. If you use crocus in combination with other flower plants to create a garden oasis, it would be best to have the crocus in front or in the outer part of the garden because of their short heights, and you dont want to burry these beautiful blooms.

The great thing about crocus is that they grow back year after year, if the bulbs are properly keep safe and well-mulched to get protected through the winter times. Over time, more and more crocuses will come out in your yard because the bulbs multiply as years pass by.

Daisy Is The Friendliest Flower

I personally think that Daisy is one of the friendliest flower, dont you think so too? Daisy is not only very easy to grow but they are also very easy to maintain, if not requires no maintainance at all. It is a perennial flower, which comes back and bloom year after year, if planted in the right location. Daisy works great in a sunny area, for maximum growth performance.

Daisy can be planted mostly using their tiny seeds, all you need is spread the seeds in the area where you want them planted, with the soil cultivated. To avoid the birds and other fowls from eating the seeds, its best to cover the seeds around 1/4 inch of soil. To promote germination, keep the soil moist but not flooded. Once the plant becomes established and grow up with full-grown leaves showing, then you can water once a day or three times a week, just to give them nutrients and encourange them to flower. The great thing about Daisy is that, once their root are established in the ground, they require minimal water and Daisies are quite drought tolerant.

So if you plant early, after the danger of frost, you should be getting blooms during the summer or possibly spring even. And they will surely add beautiful colors to your yard. Daisy comes in different colors and sizes, but the most common ones are the while petals with yellow, and could grow up to around 3-4 feet tall.

Getting Ready For Spring Time

We went to Lowes last night and it hit me that winter is almost over and spring is coming up finally! We roamed around the store, and gone in the featured section of the store are snowblowers and snow shovels, because they all been replaced with yard tractors, lawn mowers and lots of lots of plants. There were plants all over, we even saw a bunch of different types of palms for sale for only around $11 each, but unfortunately when we read the planting instructions, its hardy only up to around 40 degrees fahrenheit, which is so not gonna work in our area, because we could get cold up to 20-30 degrees cold, and we dont really just wanna spend money on plants that wont survive in our climate, we already spent too much on orchids plants before, but so far, we are unlucky because none of the orchids survive in our weather, sigh.

But if you are looking forward to getting plenty of flowers and variety of colorful display this spring time, then its almost time to start planting again, depending largely on your location, most seeds can be planted after the danger of frost for more chances of germination and surviving. But there are plenty of seedlings, flowers in pots, and packet of seeds now widely available in several department stores and home improvement stores (like Lowes and Home Depot). So if you are thinking of planting for spring blooming, then for sure you are gonna have fun checking out all the store with all kinds of different variety of flowers to choose. We are definitely ready for some colorful in our yard again, after months of fall and winter, which dont really have much color but the leaves.

Any plans of planting new plants for spring color? Which type of flowers do you prefer, annuals or perennials?

Snowballs In The Garden

Snowballs Flower is called snowballs because its flowers resemble so much like bunch of snow balls. Each snowball flower is composed of tiny little white flowers that are formed together that shape like a round ball that make them look like a ball of snow. This is probably why this flower plant is called a Snowball Flower Plant. During regular days like spring and summer, the foliage of a snowball bush is color green, and the snowball-shaped flowers will usually bloom around spring time. Blooms start out greenish in color and as the flower matures over time during the season it turns lightier and lightier and turn into white.

During fall season, weeks after the snowball flowers run their course, the green foliage will turn into bright red colors and then before winter most of the leaves turns yellow then brown and falls off for the season. The whole bush of snowball flower plant, which is usually only around four (4) feet tall, looks nice during fall time with its leaves turn into nice red color.

Crown Imperial Flower

In my recent post, i talked about some ways to get rid of moles in your garden and lawn areas.

Another known plant that supposedly have a foul smell that moles dont like is the Crown Imperial flowering bulb plant. We do have some of these plants mixed in with our tulip garden, but I dont think it work best as far as chasing the moles away because we still noticed mole presence in that garden.

Crown Imperial flower plant is a very unique looking flower, as shown in the photo above. As the name suggest, Crown Imperial, this plant resembles like a crown with its green pointy foliage, and at the same time the flowers looks like bunch of bells. Crown Imperials probably comes in many different colors but the colors I know is yellow and orange because those are what we have.

So if you have mole problems, you might try to plant this flower, Crown Imperial, to see if it will work for you. Even if it doesnt work very well with diverting the moles, they do looks really nice as a flower, that usually blooms duing spring times like the tulips.

Getting creative with floral arrangement

There is no must-follow rules to arrange flowers, there may be some popular ways to arrange flowers but there are limitless ways and possibilities that you can arrange your flowers your own ways. It is just a matter of being creative, exercising your mind and your imagination.

Out of nowhere, I came up with a way to display some of our daisies and bunch of rose petals. It all started when one day I noticed that we had so many daisies in our yard. The daisies were larger and heavier flowers than what the stem could support thats why some were just bowing to the ground. We did not add stick supports to the daisies because we had so many of them to even try doing it.

So I just cutted the daisies that are too heavy to stand up straight, leaving only an inch stem in each flower. I grab a bowl originally designed for floating candles and filled it with water halfway, then placed the cutted daisies in the water-filled bowl. And to give the arrangement some more decorative touches, I picked one rose and separate the petals to sprinkle them in between the daisies. The result is shown in the photo above. I thought it came out really nice.

So if you have flowers in your yard that might be hiding under the bushes, or grew in a wrong part of your yard where you cannot enjoy, there are ways that you can enjoy these flowers by bringing them inside your house and get creative with your floral arrangement. Just remember that the rule is no rule to being creative.

Stargazer Lily Flower (Part 2)

My last blog post (prior to this post) is also about the beautiful and majestic Stargazer Lily flowers. In my previous post, I talked about few great locations where you can plant the Stargazer Lily, as well as few tips to keep the plant in upright position when it becomes heavy and loaded with huge flower blooms.

Stargazer Lily flowers are widely popular because of its beauty, scent and simplicity. These flowers are prefect cut flowers to add natural decor inside your home or office. To use Stargazer Lily flowers as floral arrangements you usually need wide and tall base to accomodate these tall flowers without tipping the flower base and making a mess in your home or office. Stargazer Lily flower works great on its own or with other types of flowers combined. Either way it will looks nice both as a single flower in a base or as a group of the same flowers, depends on the type of flower base you have.

Stargazer Lily flowers are available in many different stunning colors but some of the most popular and are widely available for sale in most stores are the light white-pink combo, the all-white, and the deep pink ones. Some may not have that floral scent that makes Stargazer Lily a crowd favorite among many people, but to be sure, you can check the packaging label of the bulbs when you purchase it in the store to make sure that you are buying the scented one if that is what you are looking for.

Stargazer Lily Flower

I personally think that one of the most beautiful and simply attractive flower on earth is the Stargazer Lily flower. Its well-defined long petals (usually six of them in each flower) are grouped together to form like a star (see photo). Most Stargazer Lily have fresh floral scent that is hard to ignore, sometimes you can smell the scent by just passing nearby, or when the air blows in your direction. So having Lily plants near outdoor sitting area and near the windows is not a bad idea at all. Based on my personal experience, by just sitting near our window, I can occasionally smell the blooming scent of this magnificient flower.

Stargazer Lily flowers are mostly planted in bulb forms that you can buy in most home and garden stores during fall or autumn seasons. Just like most flower bulbs, Stargazer Lilies requires a well-drained soil plating area to elimimate the possible rotting of the bulbs. Stargazer Lilys full growing height are usually around 3-4 feet tall. In the contrary, you can also buy the miniature version ones which can grow full height at only around one foot.

When you decide to buy the tall ones that can grow 3-4 feet in height, it would be best that you have a handy stake near the plant usually stake made of like bamboo, plastic or metal bar to help support the stalk of the plant because some Stargazer Lily can produce 6-7 inches wide of flower that are heavy enough that may cause the stalk to bow down. So if you secure the plant with the support stake and a velcrow or adjustable garden tie, you can prevent the plant from bending or breaking and keep the whole plant upright specially that one plant can have 3 to 6 flower blooms all in one stalk than would easily outweight the stalk. Just make sure than you wont tie the plant to the stake very tightly, allow some room for the plant to grow bigger. The velcrow tie would be best fit, because you can easily move, adjust the tie as the flower plant grows over time.

Time To Plant for Spring

If you are an avid gardener and looking forward to see beautiful floral colors in the springtime, fall season is the perfect time to start planning and take time to do planting of flower bulbs for possible bloom in the spring time.

Most home improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot, warehouse stores like Costco and Sams Club, and other stores like K-Mart and Walmart usually sells wide variety of different types of flower bulbs at this time of year (September-October-November) because in most areas, fall season is the best time to plant flowering bulbs like tulips, daffodils, iris, etc.

It would be best to plant the bulbs before the danger of frost. So if you are thinking of giving some colors in your yard this coming spring, check out your nearest stores mentioned above for wide variety of different types of flowers in great deals.

We recently bought 100 bulbs of Daffodils for less than $15.00 And for gigantic bulbs, we got 80 pieces for $19.95

Yellow Mexican Hat Coneflower

I took this photo of Yellow Mexican Hat Coneflower from our yard this summer of 2007.

They blooms by the dozen, so they look really nice and noticable in group. I guess one of the reason why they call this flower Mexican Hat is because it really looks like one, dont you think so to? These flowers do have skinny delicate stems so watering them too much will cause the plants to bow down, until the sun dries them up and usually they go stand up again.

I think they would be great as accents or touched for floral arrangements. I think Mexican Hat Coneflower would look great with white daisies with yellow pollen in a base!
